June 2015




The last concert has ended, the last art show has been viewed. The final theatre presentation has closed. The stage is empty. But great things have occurred here in East Brunswick Public Schools during my tenure here. September brings a new beginning for me and for the East Brunswick educational community. Great things will continue to happen, programs will continue to grow, and East Brunswick will continue to be a model for the arts through its quantity, quality, and diversity of courses and programs.
 
All my best to the students, staff, faculty, and central administration of East Brunswick Public Schools, and your new Supervisor of Arts Education, Mr. John Perillo.

Central Elementary Students Sabina Adams and Saahil Joshi, have been selected as the Category IV Winners of NJCIE’s 6th Annual Inclusive Schools, Inclusive Lives Poster Contest. Their poster will be announced and exhibited at NJCIE’s 13th Annual Summer Inclusion Conference on June 24th & 25th, 2015 at Montclair State University. Their teacher is Laurie Denenberg.

EBHS Art Honor Society Creates Arts Panels for Township Cultural Arts Center

Mr. Matthew McCarthy with members of the EBHS Art Honor Society at the unveiling of an athletics mural at the EB Cultural Arts Center. Members of the AP Studio Art Class also presented their work following the Young Musicians Concert co-sponsored by the township and East Brunswick Arts Education.

You're invited to the Action!  The CJHS 9th Annual Original Student Film Festival.  The short films from Ms. Elson's film classes will be shown on June 4th in the cafeteria, from 2:15 to 3:15 and 7:00 to 8:00.  Vote on your favorite film, munch on some free popcorn and find out who will win Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Actor, Best Silent Film, Best PSA, Best Thriller and Best Comedy.  Answer the movie trivia and win prizes!

Thanks to Visual Arts Teacher Laurie Denenberg for these "Inclusion Matters" posters that were created for the  2015 contest.  The entries were submitted under a category of "A collaborative effort by 2 students, 1 of whom has a disability."  The parents of the students with Autism Spectrum Disorders were so delighted to see the beautiful work their students did with the 5th graders from Central School! Also pictured are bulletin boards created by Mrs. Denenberg for Autism Awareness.

The first of three Elementary Schools Art Shows is now hanging at the East Brunswick Public Library. This two month show features the work of students from all eight elementary schools. The current show features Irwin and Warnsdorfer Schools, followed by Frost, Central, and Lawrence Brook from April 20 - May 11, and concluding with Bowne-Munro, Chittick, and Memorial until May 28.

Congratulations to Hammarskjold Middle School Music Teacher and 7th Grade Band Director John Kish. Mr. Kish was named the 2015 Hammarskjold Teacher of the Year!








As part of our All District Choral Festival in February, choral students in all eleven schools made an effort to collect pet food and toys for local Dog and Cat Rescues. The effort was coordinated by Memorial Music Teacher Sharon Harrington. 392 pounds of cat and dog food and 99 toys were collected and donated district-wide! Thanks to all of our choral teachers and students for making this great effort!

Congratulations to EBHS Choral Director Jennifer Sengin, who was recently published in the National American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Choral Journal. Jen was a contributor to an article with advice for new choral teachers!
